Teams set for ITF Sand Series Finals and World Cup in Brazil

22 Nov 2024

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has revealed the teams for two major events on the ITF Beach Tennis calendar this December in Brazil - the inaugural ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals in Brasilia and the 2024 ITF Beach Tennis World Cup in São Paulo. Both tournaments will feature the world’s best beach tennis players.

The ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals, making its debut in Brasilia 3-7 December, will feature the top eight men’s and women’s doubles teams, based on combined ranking as of 18th November. With a record-breaking $100,000 prize pool, the largest in Sand Series history, this event will feature top-level competition. Rising stars, Felipe Cogo Loch (18), Luca Andreolini (20), and Vitoria Marchezini (18) will represent the next generation of talent, while a total of 12 players competing in the Tour Finals are former and current world ranked No.1s.

The ITF Beach Tennis World Cup follows from December 10-15 in São Paulo, marking the event’s fourth consecutive edition in Brazil and second in São Paulo. Last year’s final was cut short by severe weather, with Italy and Brazil sharing the title. The tournament will feature 16 nations, including Estonia as a wildcard, competing for a $35,000 prize pool – the first-time prize money will be awarded. São Paulo will also host the ITF Beach Tennis Junior World Cup, where Brazil defends its title in a record 11-nation field.

The Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) reinforces Brazil’s role as a key destination for beach tennis. With the top players, established rivalries, and emerging talents, December’s flagship tournaments will provide a series of competitive action.

Rafael Westrupp, President of the Brazilian Tennis Confederation, said, “It is a great honour for Brazil to host both the upcoming augural ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals in Brasilia and the 2024 ITF Beach Tennis World Cup in São Paulo this December. These flagship events not only underscores Brazil’s commitment to elevating beach tennis on the global stage but also highlights the dedication and passion that our nation brings to this sport. Hosting nearly 25% of the global ITF Beach Tennis Tour events, and almost 60% of the world’s major ITF Beach Tennis Tournaments (BT400, ITF Sand Series, World Cup, and ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals), Brazil has firmly positioned itself as the epicentre of beach tennis.”

“Our partnership with the ITF has been instrumental in advancing beach tennis’ international growth and we are excited to welcome the world’s top players to these prestigious tournaments, showcasing Brazil’s dedication to fostering the next generation of beach tennis talent. December promises to be an exciting month, with these events servings as a vibrant stage to celebrate the talent and spirit of beach tennis in our nation.”
Italian Beach Tennis player, Mattia Spoto, said, "It will be a great pleasure for me to compete in this tournament and win the first ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals title. The prize money definitely adds extra motivation, pushing me to work harder to win. It’s rewarding to see that the effort I’ve put into beach tennis so far has been worthwhile."

France’s, Nicolas Gianotti, said, “I'm very proud to be part of the history of beach tennis with this new event [ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series Tour Finals]. I am very excited and motivated to compete, especially with the new prize money on the line. While the points and money are important, I’m especially looking forward to the group stages and playing in this incredible venue.”

Brazil’s No.1 Beach Tennis player, Rafaella Miller, said, “It's always special to represent Brazil. This tournament is unique because you're not just playing for yourself, but for your team and country. After last year’s weather setback, we're more motivated than ever to bring home the title. It's a fantastic event that every beach tennis fan should experience. I think our team is strong, and playing the World Cup in Brazil, with the support of our fans, gives us an extra boost. We’re ready to give it our all to win another title.”

Venezuelan Beach Tennis player, Patricia Diaz, said, “I love playing team events for the pride of representing my country. There are few players from my country who fully dedicate themselves to beach tennis, so I'm always motivated to enjoy the experience with my team. Seeing my country’s flag at the top of the world fills me with pride. If my career inspires current and future generations, it means more to me than any title or trophy. I see that as a true gift, and I’m forever grateful."
