Santamarta Roig and Stusek seal J500 glory at Offenbach

Spain’s Andres Santamarta Roig has joined a select group of players after winning the third J500 boys’ singles title of his career – and his second of the 2025 season – at J500 Offenbach.

Santamarta Roig followed his J500 singles titles at J500 Plantation, which is also known as the Orange Bowl, in December and J500 Gaspar in March by conquering all before him in Germany.

The 18-year-old has now joined a host of players, including former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, to have won three J500 singles titles, although nobody betters the four triumphs of Marco Baghdatis.

The caveat to that is that Junior Grand Slams and J500s were previously equal in terms of ranking points on offer, but since Junior Grand Slams now have a greater standing, they are removed from lists such as these.

That said, Santamarta Roig is only one J500 title behind Baghdatis and, with four J500s still to be contested in 2025, there remains time to for the teenager to surge ahead.

Santamarta Roig’s latest title was sealed on the clay courts of Offenbach courtesy of a 7-5 7-5 victory over Romania’s Yannick Theodor Alexandrescou in the final. Santamarta Roig now was seven ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors titles to his name.

It was a different story in the girls’ draw as home favourite Julia Stusek claimed the first J500 singles title of her career and her first title at any level since September 2023.

This win has been a long time coming for the talented 16-year-old, who represented Germany at both the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in 2022 and Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Junior Finals in 2024.

Stusek triumphed in Offenbach without dropping a set and defeated fellow German Sonja Zhenikhova 6-4 6-1 in the final. In her six matches at J500 Offenbach Stusek lost just 29 matches in what was a powerful performance.

J500s provide premier playing opportunities for players on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors and are effectively a rung below Junior Grand Slams in terms of standing and the ranking points on offer.

Offenbach was the third of seven J500 tournaments taking place this year after J500 Cairo and J500 Gaspar. The next is J500 Milan - the Trofeo Bonfiglio - in May.
