It has been a fantastic two weeks for Sada Nahimana on the ITF World Tennis Tour. The Burundian trailblazer has been in fine form on home soil, capturing successive titles at W50 Bujumbura events.

An impressive run last week saw the 23-year-old storm to the title without dropping a set, easing past top seed Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah of France, 6-3 6-2, in the final.

Nahimana, who is the only Burundian woman with a professional tennis ranking, is now a five-time champion on the ITF World Tennis Tour with three of these at W50 level.

Prior to the first W50 Bujumbura event, Nahimana sat at No. 336 in the WTA Rankings. Following her back-to-back titles, she has shot up 91 spots in the last two weeks to No. 245 - one place off her career-best ranking which she achieved in April 2023.

As a result, she is now on track to enter Qualifying at Roland Garros, which would see her become the first Burundian player, man or woman, to contest a Grand Slam.

Once again, the ITF World Tennis Tour is proving its value to players as they advance their careers and continue their quest to perform on the sport's biggest stages.

Nahimana, meanwhile, has always been thankful for the financial support she received through the ITF-operated Grand Slam Player Development Programme. Nahimana received Grand Slam Player Development Programme funding in 2022 and 2023 to assist with her ongoing development.

As seen in the clip below, it is clear how much Nahimana's latest win in Bujumbura meant to her and the people of Burundi.

Burundians will be hoping that this is just the beginning for their star, with representation at the Grand Slam level now a real possibility in May.
