Big Week Ahead as Seniors Teams Take the Stage
A packed week of tennis kicked off in Palm Beach County, Florida on Sunday 1 May as the ITF Seniors (50+, 55+ 60+) World Team Championships and ITF Super-Seniors (65+ to 90+) World Individual Championships got underway.
The ITF Seniors (50+, 55+ 60+) World Team Championships, which takes place from 1 – 6 May, will see 125 teams in the mix for honours.
This year sees the welcome return of teams from Australia, Brazil, Great Britain and South Africa. Germany will face stiff competition as they bid to defend the titles they won in in 2021 in the Maria Esther Bueno, Maureen Connolly and Alice Marble Cups.
France, meanwhile, will also bid to repeat their successes of last year in the Fred Perry Cup and Von Cramm Cup. In the Austria Cup, the Netherlands will be fighting hard to defend their world title.
The ITF Super-Seniors (65+ to 90+) World Individual Championships runs from 30 April – 7 May alongside the Seniors Teams event. The tournament will see many of the stars from the Teams competition go for individual glory, in addition to a host of high-ranked players. Glenn Busby, Patricia Medrado, King Van Nostrand, Jaime Pinto Bravo, and Donna Fales are some of the strong contenders for the titles.
