Hopman Cup to return in 2025

27 Feb 2025

The ITF and event operator Tennium have announced that the Hopman Cup will return for the 2025 season (16-20 July).

The prestigious international mixed team competition was last played in 2023, having been postponed last year due to its proximity to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The host nation and venue for this year’s event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Throughout its illustrious history, the Hopman Cup has seen some of the game’s greatest players represent their nations in singles and mixed doubles, including Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Steffi Graf, John McEnroe, Martina Hingis, Boris Becker, Li Na, Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz.

Founded in 1989, the event spent its first 30 years in Perth, Australia, and was played in the opening week of the tennis season.

It was named after renowned Australian Davis Cup captain, Harry Hopman. In addition to a hugely successful playing career that saw him reach three Australian Open singles finals and win seven Grand Slam titles across men’s and mixed doubles, Hopman led the Australian team to a record 16 Davis Cup titles between 1939 and 1967. Hopman’s widow, Lucy, was a regular attendee at the Hopman Cup in Perth until her death at the age of 98 in 2018.

There will be six teams in this year’s competition, each consisting of one male and one female player, with ties between nations featuring one men’s singles match, one women’s singles match and a mixed doubles match.

Teams and players will be announced in the lead up to the event.

Croatia won the 2023 Hopman Cup when Donna Vekic and Borna Coric triumphed over Switzerland’s Celine Naef and Leandro Riedi in the Final at the Nice Lawn Tennis Club.
