Exciting Announcements for the ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series in 2025
The ITF Beach Tennis Sand Series is set to elevate the sport to new heights with significant updates for the 2025 calendar, including the introduction of a Team Race Ranking for the ITF Sand Series Tour Finals, the addition of a new $100,000 Sand Series event in Matosinhos, Portugal, and a prize money increase for the Sand Series event in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, reflecting the continued growth and success for this dynamic sport.
New ITF Sand Series Event in Portugal with $100,000 Prize Money
The 2025 ITF Sand Series will welcome a new tournament in Matosinhos from 10–13 July 2025 at the prestigious Arena Matosinhos, with an impressive $100,000 prize pool. This event highlights the ITF’s commitment to expanding the global reach of beach tennis and enhancing opportunities for more players.
Mr. Vasco Costa, President of the Portuguese Tennis Federation, shared his excitement, “Given the development of beach tennis in Portugal, we are very excited to organise a Sand Series in Matosinhos in 2025, the European City of Sports. It will be a great moment for this sport in Portugal, and we are sure that it will be a great incentive for the even greater development of Beach Tennis.”
Prize Money Increase for Ribeirão Preto, Brazil
The Ribeirão Preto event is set to see a substantial increase in prize money for the 2025 season, rising from $50,000 to $75,000. This enhancement highlights the tournament’s growing prominence and underscores the ITF’s commitment to supporting premier events that elevate beach tennis on a global stage. The Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) hosts 13 of the 18 premier events on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour, including three prestigious ITF Sand Series tournaments, affirming its leadership in the sport worldwide.
Introducing the Sand Series Tour Final Race Ranking
The ITF will introduce a Team Race Ranking system in 2025, enhancing the journey to the ITF Sand Series Tour Finals. Unlike the 2024 Team Finals, where individual rankings determined acceptance, the new ranking system will track the performance of teams throughout the season, creating a unified storyline for players and fans alike.
Key features of the Sand Series Tour Final Race Ranking include:
- Teams will earn points based on tournament performances, following the same point values as the current BT400, Sand Series, and World Championships ranking tables.
- Players will still receive individual ranking points for men’s and women’s doubles, but the Team Race Ranking will aggregate results to determine the top-performing duos.
- The top 8 teams at the end of the season will qualify for the ITF Sand Series Tour Finals.
The race marks an exciting new chapter for beach tennis, offering a compelling narrative that will captivate fans and players throughout the year.
Looking Ahead to 2025
With the addition of the Matosinhos event, increased prize money in Ribeirão Preto, and the introduction of the Team Race Ranking, the ITF is poised to deliver a landmark season for beach tennis in 2025. These initiatives underscore the federation’s dedication to growing the sport, rewarding athletes, and enhancing fan engagement worldwide.
The ITF expresses its sincere gratitude to our host nations, for their unwavering support and dedication to advancing beach tennis on the global stage. Their commitment to hosting and enhancing Sand Series events highlights their essential role in the continued growth and success of our sport.
