BNP Paribas World Team Cup: Great Britain claim fourth junior title

10 May 2025

While the Netherlands made it two women’s titles in three years on the penultimate day of the 2025 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, Great Britain did the same in the junior final as Lucas de Gouveia and Ruben Harris secured Great Britain’ s 2-0 victory over defending champions the USA.

De Gouveia beat Sabina Czauz 6-0 6-3 and Harris defeated Maximus Wong 7-6(2) 6-3 to make it four World Team Cup junior titles for Great Britain since 2007 and two in three years.

At the end of end a competition that once again showcased the depth of young players that continue to develop through the Johan Cruyff Foundation’s partnership with ITF junior wheelchair tennis programmes, Harris came back from 3-1 down in the opening set and from 2-0 down in the second set to beat Wong.

The 17-year-old Briton delivered a perfectly weighted lob to take the lead for the first time in the second set at 4-3 lead and never looked back as he secured his second World Team Cup gold medal, having also been a member of the 2023 winning team that beat the USA in the final in Portugal.

This year's World Team Cup also brought a first medal for Luna Gryp and Alexander Lantermann as Belgium secured their first junior medal at the ITF's flagship wheelchair tennis team event since winning back-to-back junior titles in 2005 and 2006.

History-makers Brazil to play Netherlands in quad final

History will be made in Sunday’s quad World Group final as Brazil ensured a top-two finish for the first time.

The former quad World Group bronze medallists defeated second seeds Great Britain 2-0 in their semi-final and will now play top seeds and former three-time champions the Netherlands, who beat former two-time champions Australia 2-0.
